High Performance Transmission


ATS high performance rebuilt transmissions are built to handle extremely heavy loads and very high horsepower. We increase the number of overdrive direct clutches from 8-10 to increases the amount of torque the transmission can handle during engine braking. We also increase the number of high/reverse clutches from 4-5 and the over drive clutches from 5-6 to handle higher torque loads while pulling in 3rd and 4th gear. Better oiling to the planetary gears enables towing in overdrive. The thrust system is re-engineered along with heavy gear sets installed. Finally, our expert transmission techs replace the weak factory band strut with a heavy-duty band strut.

All rebuilt ATS high performance transmissions include a rebuilt and dyno tested ATS performance valve body. Our high performance valve body provides increased ATF flow through the coolers resulting in lower ATF temperatures, better shift quality and longer ATF life. Our valve body when used in conjunction with our TripleLok Commander™ lockup controller will enable torque converter lockup in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears as well as lockup during downshifts from 4th to 3rd gear, which is especially nice during engine braking. Our transmissions are designed to enable towing in overdrive. Finally, our valve body eliminates converter drain-back when your truck is sitting for an extended period of time and provides transmission oiling in "Park" which is very important if you let your truck sit idling for long periods of time.

For customers pulling extreme loads or customers with high mileage transmissions, we recommend our high performance rebuilt transmission along with a new TripleLok® Torque Converter. Transmission Upgrade options
When this transmission is used for competition with power levels above 450rwhp or more extreme applications than usual such as pulling very loads or pulling daily, we recommend our
stage five package which includes the billet input shaft and clutch drum assembly. With more extreme loads and/or significant power upgrades the input shaft can fatigue causing possible breakage, in these events we offer a super heavy duty input shaft/clutch hub assembly that is constructed from 300-M steel and heat treated to allow tremendous torque transfer even under the most rigorous conditions. The stage five transmission packages with billet shafts/drum assemblies do not incur any additional labor charges for shipout units or in-house installs.

For trucks pulling extreme loads or being used for competition-based applications ATS offers our extreme billet flexplate upgrade. This option ends any problems that might arrise in the form a failed flexplate due to stress and fatigue. The extreme duty flexplate is a solid billet design (direct bolt-in replacement) in place of the factory stamped steel unit.
